RAINFOREST FOUNDATION RAISES 2 MILLIONS $
(CBS) Sting and his wife Trudi Styler's Rainforest Foundation Fund raised more than €1.57 ($2) million at their annual benefit gala concert last week, a spokesperson for the foundation said Wednesday. Sheryl Crow, James Taylor, Billy Joel, and Lenny Kravitz broke out their bell bottoms to sing songs from the late '60s at the Woodstock-themed concert, held at New York's Carnegie Hall on May 19.
Celebrity guests included Russell Crowe, Michael J. Fox, Pamela Anderson, Chazz Palmenteri and Rita Wilson. Ticket prices for the concert and gala party afterwards ranged from €118 ($150) to €1,960 ($2,500), but Sting told CBSNews.com that the show alone was worth the price.
"It's a good show anyway, whether you care about the Rainforest or not," he said. "It's value for money."
Styler, who produced the concert, agreed. "It just blows me away each time we do it," she said.
Sting performed several times, singing "I Got You Babe" with Crow, and Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing." Kravitz also channeled Hendrix by playing the legendary guitarist's "Foxy Lady." Even comedian Will Farrell got into the act, singing Richard Harris' "Macarthur Park" dressed in a red unitard and love beads.
For Crow, the evening had special meaning: It was one of her first performances since undergoing cancer treatment in February. "I am so happy to be here tonight on this beautiful planet we must save," she told the crowd.
The foundation continues to raise money through an online auction that will run until June 9. The collection up for grabs includes autographed items from Tim McGraw, Muhammad Ali, and Elvis; and meet and greets with Jewel, Rod Stewart and Kris Kristofferson. There are also luxury vacations, artwork and VIP audience tickets to television talk shows.

ARMSTRONG'S SORROW OVER CROW CANCER
Cycling legend Lance Armstrong has spoken about the pain of finding that his ex-fiancee Sheryl Crow had cancer just three weeks after the couple split up. Seven-time Tour de France winner Armstrong, who also beat the disease, said the singer was now "doing great" after finishing her radiotherapy for breast cancer.
"They caught it really early, that was a great thing, and the course of radiation went well," he said.
"It's just odd timing - break-ups are never easy, and then something like that three weeks later was tough.
"In many ways it was as hard as my diagnosis, it was hard to deal with."
Last Friday, Crow played her first gig since being treated for the disease, although Armstrong, 34, was not there.
"She's doing good," he added. "She's done with therapy, she says she's doing great."
Crow, 44, and testicular cancer survivor Armstrong had been together for two years and engaged for five months when they announced they were breaking up in February. Later that month Crow revealed she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and had had "minimally invasive" surgery.

[RAINFOREST BENEFIT GIG] ACCESS HOLLYWOOD - SHORT SPECIAL
Sheryl Crow’s latest video is getting a lot of airplay on country music television and it’s a great song. Sting joins her for the duet and I loved seeing him playing his string bass. It’s a different version than you’ll hear on her new CD, Wildflowers, and I really miss him on the song. Their voices meld together so well!
It’s been a long time since I was brought to tears by a song, but this one did it. Although the song seems to be in direct reaction to Crow’s break-up with Lance Armstrong, Armstrong is apparently not the only bad break-up in Crow’s past.
My yesterdays are all boxed up and neatly put away
But every now and then you come to mind
‘Cause you were always waiting to be picked to play the game
But when your name was called, you found a place to hide
When you knew that I was always on your side
Well they say that love is in the air, never is it clear,
How to pull it close and make it stay
Butterflies are free to fly, why do they fly away
And I’m left to carry on and wonder why
Even through it all, I’m always on your side
“I wanted to reveal more of myself on this record,” Crow says on her web site. “… and I didn’t have any trepidation about doing that. At this point in my life, I really wanted to make a record that wasn’t concerned with having singles, that felt mature and asked the questions that a 40 year old would ask.”
Lance’s ex-wife — who bears quite a resemblance to Crow — was on Oprah talking about the break-up of her marriage. She said right away that she wouldn’t be doing any Lance-bashing. What she did say, though, was that she lost herself in the marriage. They married within a year of meeting and she sold her car and home, even got rid of her dog to move to France to be with Lance while he trained. They have three kids together.
Crow also seems to have rebounded nicely from the break-up — and the breast cancer. She’s got a bunch of shows scheduled for June that are make-up dates from March and April that she had to cancel while undergoing treatment in February, which included minimally invasive surgery and radiation. Her doctors reported that her prognosis is excellent.
You’ll also hear Crow singing back-up with Vince Gill on Brooks & Dunn’s new single, Building Bridges, the third single from Hillbilly Deluxe. The song will be released to radio in June.
Pretty Sheryl, walking down the street
Pretty Sheryl, the kind I'd like to meet,
Pretty Sheryl, I don't believe you it must be true,
No one could look as good as youuuu

SHERYL CROW BACK ONSTAGE AFTER SURGERY
Tue May 16, 6:56 PM ET
NEW YORK - Knocked down by cancer,
Sheryl Crow is back to rock 'n' rolling.
The 44-year-old singer made her first public performance Tuesday after undergoing breast cancer surgery in February and subsequent radiation treatment.
Crow was hired to sing three songs at a sales presentation to advertisers by My Network TV, a new broadcast network launching in September that will use her song "A Change Would Do You Good" as the theme to one of its series.
She played guitar and smiled, but appeared to move gingerly onstage. Showing rustiness, she stopped the song "Soak Up the Sun" and started again after flubbing the lyrics.
"The words are just coming back to me now," she said. "I knew it last night. I think the radiation went to my brain."
Like the lyrics suggest, she seemed to have fun while ending her brief set with "All I Wanna Do."
"This is the first time I've played in ages," she said. "I'm just happy to be here."

INTERVIEW NOTHING TO CROW ABOUT
By The Bakersfield Californian | Monday, May 15 2006 6:05 PM
Last week, I interviewed Linda Armstrong Kelly. Kelly, better known as Lance Armstrong's mom, is speaking at the Hoffmann Hospice Dinner on Thursday. When people heard I was doing the story, they told me to ask various questions -- all with a similar theme.
"What's Sheryl doing?" "Ask her why Lance left Sheryl right around the time she found out she had breast cancer." "Ask her how Sheryl felt about taking up with Lance after his wife nursed him through cancer."
In short, there appeared to be quite a bit of interest in what Sheryl was doing or not doing and feeling or not feeling.
Sheryl is singer Sheryl Crow and she was Armstrong's girlfriend for several years. If my wife was carried off by a Bakesaurus and I didn't marry the beautiful launderette in Spain, I have always imagined myself going on the road with Sheryl Crow.
It's not so much a physical attraction; it's that the girl can belt out a song.
If you don't believe me, listen to "Strong Enough." It'll make the hair stand up on your legs. Early in the interview with Kelly, I could see there were going to be problems with asking about her son's ex-girlfriend. Given that spending time with his kids was one of the reasons Armstrong gave for retiring after winning his seventh Tour de France, I asked Kelly what kind of custody arrangement Armstrong had with his ex-wife.
"I'm not sure what that has to do with anything," Kelly said coolly.
"Coolly" is right before "coldly" and coldly is right before hang up the phonely. I backed off, changed the subject and asked her a penetrating question about her second home on a lake in northern Texas.
The second problem with asking about Sheryl is that it's slightly awkward talking to a mother about her son's relationship with his girlfriend. Parents are not always eager to talk about their children's romances. However, here is the real issue: Who cares? I realize this may be insulting to the millions of Americans who enjoy a steady diet of light, no-harm, no-foul news about the love lives of their favorite celebrities, and I don't want to be unsporting.
I just don't know how you keep track. One week someone is married to Jennifer and having a baby and a year later the same guy is with Ashlee, Hilary, Lindsay, Mary-Kate or Paris. Somebody is always coming or going. Sad or empty. Fulfilled or betrayed.
Here is what I like about celebrities other than their shiny hair and polished shoes: They are good at something. Good at acting, singing, riding a bike, making money and shooting free throws. Beyond that, you may not want to know want you think you want to know. I have met some fine people who can't sashay worth a darn down the red carpet, but they're unbeatable at sitting around a dinner table, building a deck or taking a walk. They are only celebrities with their friends and spouses, whom sometimes they stay married to for a while.
Usually they have a sense of humor. They know that none of this can last no matter how famous they are.

SHERYL CROW SET TO ROCK SAP SAPPHIRE
By Laurie Sullivan, TechWeb.com
SAP AG customers attending Sapphire 2006 next week in Orlando, Fla., can expect to hear news on customer relationship management, the next version of enterprise resource planning platform mySAP ERP, and four new industry value networks, an SAP executive said.
But the conference won't close before Sheryl Crow makes an appearance on Thursday night. Crow, known for hits "If It Makes You Happy," "Everyday Is a Winding Road," and "All I Wanna Do," headlines the wrap-up party for SAP conference attendees at the TD Waterhouse Centre. The arena sits about 17,248 during basketball season. About 10,000 customers have registered to attend the annual Sapphire event.
Sapphire 2006 will focus on "Accelerating Innovation, Energizing Growth.” The conference features more than 180 customer session. About 243 partners are involved, including Accenture, Capgemini, Deloitte, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Sun Microsystems, and Tata Group, an SAP official said.
Attendees can expect to hear news from SAP on market segments, vendor partnerships on Monday, customer announcements on Tuesday, and product news on Wednesday.
Bill Swanton, vice president of research and development at AMR Research Inc. will look to see how SAP will enable development in its enterprise services architecture (ESA) platform. "They've been talking about it for the past two years and now we want to see how it's coming together and whether it's ready for prime time," he said. "Now customers want to see proof."
SAP said it intends to provide that proof, along with a view on customer relationship management applications. Hints come from two previous announcements, said SAP spokesman Bill Wohl. SAP recently developed a new user-interface for customers to access hosted CRM applications.
Sapphire attendees also will hear about the next version of mySAP ERP. "We are helping customers move into the SOA [service oriented architecture] world and the next version of the ERP will be service enabled, so we'll talk about what that means for users," Wohl said. "We'll also provide a continuing report card on the maturing of the platform ecosystem strategy and NetWeaver adoption."
On the agenda, too, SAP will announce four IVNs, a group of independent software vendors (ISVs) and customers that focus solely on one industry's business challenges.
The four industries SAP will announce are Retail, Consumer Goods, High Tech and Public Sector, Wohl said. SAP already offers an IVN for the banking sector, and this week announced a group focused on the chemical industry.
Chemical industry giants Celanese, Dow Corning, DuPont, Eastman Chemical Co., Hexion Specialty Chemicals and NOVA Chemicals will work with SAP and the IVN for chemicals program partners. These include IBM Global Business Services, Invensys, LogicTools, Meridium, NRX, OR Soft, OSIsoft, Pavilion Technologies, SmartOps Corporation, TATA Consultancy Services, TechniData and Vendavo
And, for the first time, this year’s Sapphire conference will co-locate with the ASUG (Americas SAP User Group) user conference. Between the two conferences, approximately 550 sessions are available.
Have you checked out the new service: Google Trends? Now, you can see what trends Google founds in searches and newsreports. Just type in one or more keywords, and Google will present a graph to see how searching habits changed over the years regarding those words, as well as the volume of newsreports. Pretty cool :-)
New Sheryl's DVD, Wildflower Tour: Live from New York is out now! The DVD contains the concert filmed on october 30/31 of 2005 at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City. Yes, it's a good news, however, on the official store there are very few details about this release: no complete setlist, no tech specs (DVD region, aspect ratio, audio, extra etc..) ... nothing.
Each DVD costs 19,99 USD (about 15,50 Eurs) plus shipping (18 USD for Europe! A bit expensive...).
Happy shopping!

ANCORA SU LANCE ARMSTRONG...

Singer SHERYL CROW has leaped to the defence of COLDPLAY following a critical backlash against the British band in the US. The phenomenally successful CHRIS MARTIN-fronted four-piece have recently suffered at the hands of American music writers. Crow says, "They've had some scathing reviews in the US. The New York Times just wrote a study in why to hate them. Unfair, I think." (KL&GES/MJ via www.pr-inside.com)

ARTIST'S CHOICE D.E. - ARTWORK
Sorry guys, I don't know the release date (Hi Brigitte :-). Anyway, this edition was immediately withdrawn from the market for technical reasons the last year. In few words, it lacks the hi-resolution track! (check the back cover). On DVD side there is ONLY a Dolby Digital stereo track, rather futile. Sigh.
By the way: these new covers are GREAT, well sung and arranged, especially I never loved a man ( definitely one of my favourite selections, almost better than original... mmh, heretic you say? :-) and Blue Eyes Cryin in the Rain.
Ok, they are just covers, but who cares? They are delightful to listen.
The Few That Remain is a "sweetened" version of the homonym song originally performed (and written) by Jeff Trott. It's not bad at all, but Sheryl's rendition is more catchy (ehm, ehm...) and conventional, IMHO. Nice slide guitar work, though. Last cover is an absolut classic: You Can Close Your Eyes by James Taylor. Well, her performance is average, but there is something attractive about it... i can't explain, maybe her heart-melting voice? Mumble, mumble... these ballads are my ruin! :-)

LA SCHEDA DI SHERYL DA L'ENCICLOPEDIA DEL ROCK DE L'ESPRESSO
Toh, italiani, leggete qua:
Sheryl Crow
5) Cantante di Memphis? Kennett, Missouri.

"SHERYL CROW"
"Sheryl Crow" is a new song penned by Betty Dylan, an indie duo from Nashville.
